Lego Star Wars tops Switch sales charts, first non-Nintendo game in a year to do so
Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga did something very few Switch games have done in the past few years: it topped the NPD Switch April sales chart, becoming the first non-Nintendo released game to do so in over a year. And skywalker saga not only topped the Switch sales charts last month, but also topped the charts of every other console, according to the latest NPD data.
According to NDP data shared today (first spotted by GameSpot), TT Games’ latest Lego family adventure was the best-selling game in April, even beating Ring of Elden, which is right behind at number two. (It should be noted that Ring of Elden also sells very well, even no longer sold Call of Duty.)
As mentioned, skywalker saga was also the best-selling game on all platforms NPD monitored, including Xbox, PlayStation, and Switch. Lego Star Wars Snagging the top of the Switch sales charts for April is a big deal, as Nintendo-published games almost always top the NPD Switch charts. A non-Nintendo title grabbing the top spot is not a common occurrence.
The last third-party game to accomplish this feat was Rise of the Monster Hunter in March 2021. It happens so rarely that I had to dig a lot to find another instance of a non-Nintendo title at the top of the chart. In fact, the last time this happened was in April 2019 with the release of Mortal Kombat 11 on Switch.
If history is any indicator, chances are skywalker sagaThe time spent at the top will be fleeting, as non-Nintendo titles rarely repeat this feat two months in a row.
It’s yet another example of how important exclusive games are to Nintendo and its consoles, which is likely why the company has so many bangers lined up for later this year. This is especially the case compared to other consoles, which seem to keep getting big delayed exclusives these days.
